FLAX VIT

FLAXSEED WITH TOCOPHEROL

CAPSULES

Flaxseed, a 100% vegetarian alternative to fish oil is a naturally rich source of essential fatty acids Omega 3, 6, 9 which are very essential for a healthy living. ALA from flaxseed oil is a high nutrient source of essential Omega-3 fatty acids that can't be manufactured by our body. So it must be obtained from the diet. Our body converts ALA into EPA and DHA. The deficiency of these fatty acids causes dry skin, rough hair, hair fall, brittle nails and poor memory. Flaxseed oil may also help in proper brain function, support a healthy heart, maintain normal cholesterol and may also aid in weight loss.

Flaxseed has gained the status of superfood is a plant-based food that provides healthful fat.  For centuries, flax seeds are greatly considered for their health-protective properties.  This is the best source of omega-3 fats for people who are strict vegetarians or for those who don't eat fish.

One of the oldest crops, flaxseeds are loaded with nutrients.  These seeds have a high fibre content, which helps with digestion. The good fat in flaxseeds helps in reducing blood pressure, lower the LDL cholesterol, that is the bad cholesterol and also helps in preventing strokes.  It has also been found out that flaxseed may help in lowing the risk of certain types of cancers.  Due to its high fibre content flaxseed may also be helpful in weight loss

KNOW YOUR FLAXSEED OIL

RANCID FLAXSEED OIL

Rancidity is a natural process, all oils under certain circumstances, will "go rancid" at some point in time. Whether it's flaxseed oil, fish oil or any other kind of oil, with respect to determining its shelf life and the development of rancidity, you need to pay attention to its quality, the processes by which it was manufactured and how it is stored.

When you eat rancid flaxseed, it harms your body. Rancid oil will be full of free radicals, that destroy your healthy cells. This increases the oxidative stress in the body and causes premature ageing, weakens the immune system, slows down wound healing, among others.

This chemical change also changes the taste to something bitter and nasty tasting. However, oils that are slightly rancid might not taste all that bad, so care must be taken to avoid such spoiled oils.

[An example is flaxseed oil, also known as linseed oil. Boiled linseed oil is highly poisonous.]

HOW TO KNOW WHEN FLAX IS RANCID

SIGHT
Fresh flaxseed oil has a clear, uniform, golden-yellow colour free of cloudiness, like corn oil. Rancid flaxseeds have discoloured, cracked, soft or otherwise damaged seed coats.

SMELL
Fresh flaxseed oil gives an impression of lightness when inhaled. Rancid flaxseed oil has a burnt and bitter odour most people generally describe as "off." "Cooked" also describes the odour of rancid flaxseed oil, a smell like that of used frying oil. Flaxseeds might or might not have an odour, depending on the degree of rancidity. However, any smell that deviates from nutty and leans toward bitter or burned indicates rancidity.

TASTE
Fresh flaxseed tastes like it smells – clean, crisp and mildly nutty If it rancid – chew a few and check for a burnt or bitter flavour.

It is generally considered that gel capsules offer more protection against oxidation than liquid formulations, as they are stored in airtight containers. Glass, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers, may often be the best choices to minimize exposure to light/damaged by the sun.

IS RANCID FLAX SEED OIL BAD FOR YOU?

Rancid flaxseed oil will be full of free radicals, which gives off the unpleasant smell and taste and it destroys healthy cells in your body.

  • Rancid flax seed oil can cause digestive discomfort

  • Weakens the immune system

  • Slows down wound healing

  • Premature ageing.

Therefore, it’s critical to consider the freshness level of your Flaxseed Oil supplement.

COMBATING RANCIDITY

COLD PRESSING

Flaxseed oil needs to be cold-pressed to retain nutrition benefits. The cold-pressing process does not destroy the nutrients, ensuring nutrients are available readily for absorption. Cold-pressed oil needs to be stored in dark to avoid oxidation, rancidity and spoilage.  There are many ways to extract oils from plants. However, cold-pressed oil is unique — because it involves no additional chemical solvents or heat. Unfortunately, not all oils can be produced through cold-pressed extraction. The moisture content of a nut or seed can affect whether or not oil can be produced with this method. Cold pressing is more environmentally friendly compared to other methods it doesn’t need any additional chemicals cold-pressed oil has a better shelf life than other oils, which means that it's less likely to go rancid also cold-pressed oils can have an increased amount of antioxidants.

CERTIFICATE OF ANALYSIS (COA) - ASK FOR IT..!

Certificate of Analysis is a document issued by Quality Assurance that confirms that a regulated product meets its product specification. They commonly contain the actual results obtained from testing performed as part of quality control of an individual batch of a product.

Not all fish oils are the same in terms of nutritional content & purity. The best way to understand the product quality, ingredients such as EPA and DHA for fish oils, and their respective strengths are through the Certificate Of Analysis [COA]. COA should list Peroxide Value, Anisidine Value, Acid Value and Totox value to help you gauge the freshness of the oil.  It also lists the amount of PCBs, dioxins, mercury, lead, arsenic and Cadmium. Generally, COA gives an overall idea about the product based on its quality & purity.
